The Chamber's Government Affairs Committee works to create and sustain a favorable business environment in which all businesses can grow and prosper through the monitoring of legislation and influencing of governmental decisions on behalf of the interests of our members. This committee provides a basis for the Chamber to act on local, state, and federal governmental issues and evaluate political candidates.
This month: The Escondido Chamber is proud to welcome Patricia Sinay from the Citizens Redistricting Commission. Every ten years, after the federal census, California must re-establish the boundaries of its Congressional, State Senate, State Assembly, and State Board of Equalization districts to reflect new population data and shifting populations. The Voters FIRST Act gave this power to California citizens ensuring that new and fair political boundaries are drawn without special interests, politics and political influence.
Commissioner Sinay will explain the process of redistricting, how it might look here in San Diego County, and what changes could be in the future for our district representatives.
Joining Commissioner Sinay will be the new Chair of our Government Affairs committee, Stan Weiler. Stan who sits on the Chamber's Board of Directors is Co-Founder of Howes, Weiler, Landy Planning & Engineering and Founder of Landmark Consulting. He has over 30 years of experience in public and private land use planning in San Diego, Riverside, and Imperial Counties, and he is the current Chairman of the City of Escondido Planning Commission.
